My thanks to Dave DiGiacomo for turning me on to this place. It's a very small, family-owned, computer supply and repair place not far from the SF Zoo. In fact, you need to be careful when you're driving along Taraval looking for it. Blink at the wrong moment, and you may miss it.

Despite their small size, TCR is well worth a stop if you're in need of computer components. One of the features I particularly liked about them was their tubs full of SCSI disk drive pulls, priced very reasonably indeed. I got three one-giggers (small, yes, but they're great for Sun boxes) for $2 each, and four-giggers can be had for about $5 each.

While they were, at the time of my visit, a little slim on stocks of more exotic hardware (network goodies, KVMs, UPS's, just to name a few, and this is what got them only a C+ on variety), it is my understanding that their stock changes frequently. This means that, as with many other surplus places, you'll probably get maximum benefit if you're a 'regular.'

One other thing you should be aware of. If you've never driven in San Francisco before, getting to a position where you can turn on Taraval to get to this shop could be quite a challenge, thanks to SF's seemingly anal placement of 'No Left Turn' and 'No U-Turn' intersections. Try to approach this one from east of Sloat Blvd. if you can.

In fact... If you, dear reader, happen to know SF reasonably well, and can provide decent directions that won't drive an out-of-town visitor batty, I will happily post them here.
