ACCRC is, first and foremost, a computer recycler operating under non-profit status. As such, purchasing from them absolutely requires that you have a resale permit. This is easy enough to accomplish -- simply register a fictitious business name in your state of residence with whatever department handles your state tax collection. In other words, you are registering yourself under a 'DBA' -- Doing Business As, and they will assign you a resale ID number.

If you choose not to go through the hassle of purchasing, ACCRC does have a 'Free!' pile of hardware, software, and books that you can dig through. This is always worth a look, as you never know what will turn up, but you need to make regular visits to make the most of it.

If you do plan to make a purchase, please know what you're looking for, and be specific about it to the sales folk. Their time is valuable, and ACCRC is always busy at around the "Hopping!" level. Be prepared to thoroughly inspect what you plan on buying, and know what it is and what you're doing with it.

In short, this is not a location that I would suggest a novice scrounger actually try to purchase from as a 'first strike.' If you're a novice, and you want to do more than dig through the 'Free!' pile, go with an experienced scrounger (preferably someone who's been to ACCRC at least once).
